Winter wonderland........

After a lovely deep sleep from all of us, I looked out the upstairs window and was greeted by a winter wonderland..the bright morning sun shone onto the yellowing autumn leaves of the birch trees, the last trees to lose their foliage. After a big bowl of porridge laced with organic dried apricots and dollops of honey..... we had our first attempt at a snowman with his funky ski gloves on and made snow angels in the white softness of the drieveway.... the sun was quite warm, and the views were just wonderful.
Stella and I went for a lovely bike ride and looked back towards our house with the snow covered mountains in the distance...we sat in the sun and ate spiced christmas cookies and mandarins and just soaked in the atmosphere of peacefulness and beauty.
I have been overwhelmed by the magic that snow creates, especially on a sunny day...everything sparkles, everything looks neat and tidy, and it quietly falls but makes such a dramatic change its unbelievable. This is our first time of living in a snowy area, and it is quite different to just going for a drive to visit the snow for a day.....the excitement of watching it start to fall, the way it covers everything to make life feel softened for awhile, feeling warm and cosy inside by the fire, wearing down jackets and fleece lined boots, watching and laughing at chickens eating snowflakes falling thinking they are insects, collecting freshly laid eggs to warm up small hands, many different types of hot drinks; coffee, herbal, earl grey, hot chocolate, luxurating in a hot bath for two soaking away tired muscles and minds, snuggling in bed with a hot water bottle, drifting off to the crackling of the fire.....
Too many things...aaah the magic of snow is all around.
