What an exciting day! We headed off to find a shady place to watch the cyclists around 9, it was 26 degrees already, and the scenery along the way mostly yellow, bright with sunflowers! We settled on a slight downhill, next to an old stone hut, with plenty of shady areas to put our picnic blanket...some friends shared our spot and we waited excitedly for some action on the roads. Lots of horns and sirens heralded the start to the freebie promotional caravans..my goodness...we had 30 min of shouting and waving to cars with inflatable cyclists 4 metres high or people dancing on a stage... and we collected a pile of hats, stickers, keyrings, lollies, magazines, reflective bands and more..was so much fun, the children loved it, a bit noisy for Ruben who piut his hands over his ears much of the time! We settled down for lunch before cheering the cyclists who were gone in 10 min! There seemed to be alot of cars stopped, and police and ambulance just down the road,, so we ran down to see if there was an accident, but were told with a laugh, just a wee stop! Was very funny.
Sam went down to the local village to watch the rest of the race on the big screen over a few cold beers, and the rest of the day was spent cooling off in the pool.....with thoughts of, will we follow the race to the Mountains tomorrow to see some hill climbs???
I watched a portion of the race on television and thought of you because I remembered you said something about going. The sunflowers were everywhere, so beautiful!!! It all looked like great fun! What a great memory for your little ones.
